Green Pool Recovery & Algae Removal in Orlando, FL
Green pools don't fix themselves — and pouring in extra chlorine without a proper process just wastes money. Our proven multi-step recovery brings most Orlando pools back to crystal clear in 3–5 days.
Why Your Pool Turned Green — and Why It Matters
Green pool water is algae — specifically, a colony that has established itself because chlorine dropped too low to suppress it. In Orlando's climate, this can happen in as little as 5–7 days under the right conditions.
The problem is more serious than it looks. A heavily algae-infested pool is a health hazard — algae creates an environment where harmful bacteria can multiply. The algae colony also consumes chlorine faster and faster as it grows, making recovery increasingly difficult the longer it's left untreated.
Dumping chlorine in without addressing the underlying chemistry, cleaning the filter, and physically removing dead algae doesn't work. The pool may lighten temporarily and then go green again within days. Recovery requires a systematic process.
Common causes of green pool outbreaks in Orlando:
Missed or skipped service visits — chlorine depletes and algae establishes in days
Heavy rainfall events that dilute chlorine and introduce phosphates
Power outages that stop the pump and halted circulation
Malfunctioning chlorinator or empty chemical feeder
High phosphate levels feeding rapid algae growth despite normal chlorine
Crystal clear water
- Chlorine at 2–3 ppm
- pH balanced 7.2–7.6
- Swim-safe and clear

How Green Pool Recovery Works
Our recovery process follows a specific sequence for good reason — each step sets up the next. Skipping steps is why DIY recovery often fails.
Water Analysis & Root Cause Assessment
We test your water across 9 parameters to understand what chemistry conditions allowed the algae bloom, how severe the outbreak is, and what combination of treatment will be most effective. This determines the dosing for everything that follows.
Superchlorination (Shock Treatment)
We add calcium hypochlorite (pool shock) at a dose calculated for your pool volume and algae severity — typically 3–5x the normal level. This overwhelms and kills the algae colony. Brushing all walls, steps, and the floor simultaneously breaks up the algae biofilm so chemicals can reach it.
Algaecide Application
We apply an appropriate algaecide at the calculated dose to address any algae strains that may be chlorine-resistant and to provide a residual deterrent as the pool clears. Algaecide type is chosen based on algae color — green, yellow/mustard, and black algae each respond to different formulations.
Filter Cleaning & Extended Run Time
A green pool means the filter is also overwhelmed. We clean or backwash the filter thoroughly and set the pump to run 24 hours to maximize water turnover. The filter is working constantly to remove the dead algae that the shock treatment has killed.
Follow-Up: Dead Algae Removal & Chemistry Correction
As the pool clears (typically 24–48 hours after shock), dead algae settles to the floor. We return to vacuum it out, re-test chemistry, make any remaining adjustments, and verify the filter is handling the load. A second shock may be applied if needed for severe cases.
Final Clearance & Prevention Plan
Once the water tests clean and you can see the pool floor clearly, we do a final balance, apply a clarifier if any haze remains, and walk you through what caused the outbreak. We then recommend a maintenance plan to prevent recurrence — typically regular weekly service.
